Its always so exciting to learn about the medicinal values of plants that grow near my home. Its almost as great as finding an unexpected, but familiar herb in the wild. I just discovered that wild mugwort grows in my area recently!

Thanks!

Lana, it certainly couldn't hurt to try it. I'm not sure dandelion flower oil will address arthritic pain specifically. My sense is that it works at a more surface level to relax tensed up muscles and other tissues, and that it works better when it is lightly, rather than deeply, massaged in. I'm thinking it might not penetrate deeply to the joints or address the inflammation that comes with arthritis -- but I could be wrong about that; I haven't yet had a chance to experiment with arthritic pain conditions. However, I do know that arthritic pain can cause the muscles to be tense and sore as a secondary problem, so it may help with that aspect. St. John's Wort oil does have some anti-inflammatory properties, and I believe it will definitely soothe the nerves that register pain.

Regarding depression, I have noticed repeatedly that whenever I work with the dandelion oil that my mood lifts considerably. It seems to bestow the gift of joy. St. John's Wort is also a happy oil that makes me feel cheerful when I use it. I know from experience that St. John's Wort tincture taken internally several times a day can be very effective in lifting the spirits, and it can also be a very good pain reliever, especially combined with skullcap tincture.

If you want some more in-depth info about addressing back pain herbally, here are two very good articles on the topic:

Hello i was just wondering if the sunflower and st johns wort oils would work on a friend who is having sever back pain due to arthritis and is on heavy pain meds to try to ease the discomfort. The pain is also in his hands and has also affected his moods and is very depressed due to the pain he is suffering with. He spends most of his day in bed watching tv as he feels he is worthless and cant do anything due to the pain.
